Feeling tired lately??? It's because the end of summer heat has arrived! Traditional Chinese Medicine suggests "ziwu" sleep (sleeping at midnight and midday) and dietary therapy for health preservation. Health preservation efforts should be continuous throughout the year, and among various methods, these two are probably the simplest and most popular.

 

Chushu (處暑), literally "ending the heat," means the departure of hot weather. It marks the transition from hot to cold temperatures, although the temperatures during Chushu are still high. ??

 

During this time, people expend a lot of physical energy and nutrients, and lose a lot of sweat. Therefore, it is advisable to nourish the body and prevent energy loss. TCM practitioners recommend eating more "cooling-tonifying" foods, such as honey, lily bulbs, and lotus seeds, to strengthen the spleen, resolve dampness, and relieve summer heat. However, it is not advisable to eat "heating" foods, and one should consume less spicy 🌶️, fried, and other hot foods to avoid exacerbating dryness and damaging yin, which could affect spleen and stomach function.
