What is Cordyceps Sinensis?
Cordyceps sinensis is a fungus of the family Clavicipitaceae. It is a composite of the fruiting body and the dead larva of the ghost moth (Thitarodes armoricanus), an insect of the Hepialidae family, on which the cordyceps parasitic fungus grows. Cordyceps is a symbiosis of fungus and insect, where an ascomycete fungus infects a lepidopteran larva, burrowing into loose soil. The following spring, a rod-shaped "grass" grows from the anterior end of the insect's body, emerging from the ground. Cordyceps sinensis consists of the insect body and the fungal fruiting body growing from its head. The best quality cordyceps have a bright yellow insect body, are plump and large, have a yellowish-white cross-section, and a short fruiting body.
Benefits of Cordyceps Sinensis
1. Anti-fatigue – Cordyceps sinensis can boost our body's mitochondrial energy, enhance the body's cold tolerance, and has an anti-fatigue effect.
2. Boosts immunity – Helps improve the phagocytic function of the human mononuclear macrophage system, alleviates deficiencies in cellular immune function, thereby enhancing the body's immune response capabilities.
3. Inhibits tumors – Research indicates that components such as polypeptides and nucleosides in cordyceps mycelium can directly inhibit the growth of tumor cells by inhibiting nucleic acid and protein synthesis.
4. Regulates the functions of the heart, liver, kidneys, and respiratory system – Cordyceps sinensis can reduce damage to the liver from toxic substances and improve the heart's hypoxia tolerance; it effectively dilates bronchi, prevents emphysema, and reduces chronic kidney disease lesions, improving kidney function.
5. Regulates blood lipids and hematopoietic function – Cordyceps sinensis can effectively lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, and increase beneficial high-density lipoprotein, as well as enhance the bone marrow's ability to produce platelets and red and white blood cells.
